So you’re apply for a job at one of Australia’s largest employers and get asked this simple in yet complex question.
Australian’s as a culture have an in interesting culture in that despite being generally quote open in communication will often shy away from self-promotion which can make questions such as “please tell us why you would be a perfect fit for coles and our customers” to be quite difficult.
The purpose of the question helps interviewers understand a lot more about the applicant and not just by what they say within their answer, but also how they say it. Some of the key things you will want to touch in a question from Coles such as this is:
- Your ability to work well within a team
- How you can assist customers with anything from questions and complaints
- The importance of providing good customer service
Whilst Coles isn’t going to have an expectation that you write an extensive answer with extensive vocabulary, be sure to check your spelling and grammar as you want to leave a good impression with any answer and that you show an attention to detail to maximise your chances of getting hired. They also note a word count (100 words or less) to check your ability to follow rules.

I strive to not only meet the expectations of my team members and management but also customers and anyone who interacts with Coles on a day to day basis.
Example Response 3:
I am the perfect fit for Coles and your customers because I am passionate about giving my best effort in whatever role that I work. I am focused and understand the expectations that Coles has on providing great service and experience to the shoppers of their stores.
Example Response 4:
As someone who has previous experiences working in various supermarkets I believe that I am the perfect fit for Coles and its customers. I have worked in checkout, deli, produce and meat departments before and have also filled in for store opens, closes and 2IC roles in my previous roles within Coles stores. I’m able to swiftly deal with any customer complaints by clearly listening to their concerns and resolving whatever issues possible to ensure they leave with a positive experience.
Remember to keep to their word limit of 100 words or less.
